Those honestly are the excellent vegan carrot canine available. This summer time say good bye to the ones frankeinweenie’s! instead of filling your buns with a cholesterol packed processed hotdog we are going to use a CARROT! Don’t fear, we aren’t just slapping a raw carrot in a warm canine bun and calling it summer season. Heck no, that isn’t cool. we are going to make a quick marinade on the way to take that carrot from boring to summer season grilling taste city. sure, you could grill these carrot puppies or cook them in a skillet.
Ingredients
- 8-10 carrots
- 1/4 cup Soy Sauce or liquid aminos
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup vegetable broth
- 2 tbs maple syrup
- 1 tbs liquid smoke
- 2 tsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- hot dog buns
- Your favorite hot dog toppings (Get creative!
Instructions
- First peel your carrots. You can even round off the edges to make them look more like a real hot dog.
- Bring a skillet of water to boil and add the carrots. Cook until your carrots are right at fork tender.
- Meanwhile, prepare the marinade.
- Add the soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, vegetable broth, maple syrup, liquid smoke, yellow mustard, onion powder, and garlic powder to a mixing bowl or mason jar. Mix well.
- Once your carrots are fork tender transfer them to a dish/pan that is long enough for the carrots. Pour the marinade over the carrots. Cover. Let marinate over night or for a few hours.
- *note: I’ve made these without marinating the carrots. Instead I added some of the marinade to the skillet and cooked the carrots that way. They turn out tasty this way but, I would recommend marinating the first couple of times you make these.
- Heat up the grill or skillet
- Cook the carrots just like you would a regular hot dog. The only difference is you want to use the remaining marinade to braise the carrots as you cook.
- After your carrots are soft (not breaking apart) and have good grill marks/sear remove from the heat.
- Add the carrots to your favorite hotdog buns just like you would a hot dog and pile on those toppings!
